The Ukama band will be playing a mixture of Zimbabwean Marimba Music &amp; World Music that you can move to, and is is a marimba ensemble that specializes in traditional and contemporary Zimbabwean music. Based in Bellingham, Washington, the band is extremely high energy, and is sure to have you dancing on your feet! Ukama presents a very unique experience for any audience member. In addition to marimba, the band features guitar, bass, mbira (the traditional instrument of Zimbabwe), hosho, and drum set.The Bellingham Community Marimba Project (BCMP) is a newly-founded studio, aiming to promote, share, and advocate for Zimbabwean marimba music. Founded by director Caden Davis in 2024, the studio is currently in the middle of its first session of classes. A spring session will be offered from late March through the end of the academic year.&nbsp;

He can be found headlining clubs, breweries, and appropriately sized theaters across the United States and Canada. His stand up has been featured on Netflix is a Joke Radio, season two of Kevin Hart Presents: Hart of the City on Comedy Central, Don’t Tell Comedy Secret Sets, &amp; LOL Live! at the prestigious Just For Laughs comedy festival in Montreal. He was a finalist in the 39th annual Seattle International Comedy Competition and is a regular at festivals including Bumbershoot, SF Sketchfest, the Double Down Comedy Experience sponsored by Zappos, Life is Beautiful in Las Vegas, Rifflandia in Victoria BC, Prizefest, and Big Pine Comedy Festival in Phoenix. Bo has opened for theatre acts including Marc Maron, Jessica Kirson, and David Nihill. With a growing online audience Bo’s jokes have been viewed millions of times online.Separate from stand up comedy, one time Bo and his best friend from high school snuck into a movie theater as one person. The Cosmic Neighborhood Watch

Eloquently blending synth-folk, moody pop, and soaring vocal harmonies, Babes In Canyon crafts music that is eminently engaging and very much of the moment. Born of a spontaneous writing session during a blackout, their debut EPs Second Cities &amp; Year To Live unfold with an easy grace that belies the relative newness of the endeavor. As one of the founding members of the indie-pop band Kuinka, Nathan Hamer honed his skills as a singer-songwriter through years of national headlining tours and festival performances. Yet, Hamer felt a calling to explore a new path. “I wanted to start a project that explored the outer edges of folk music, that pushed what I love about folk and americana song structures into a new soundscape.” Fate must have been listening, and soon a severe windstorm stranded Hamer and partner Amanda Ebert in a remote cabin near Washington’s Mount Baker. “We lost power and then the trees started to fall. Our only path out was blocked, so we started playing music by firelight to calm our nerves,” laughs Hamer. “I was humming along with my baritone uke. Amanda wrote out lyrics. And by the end of the night, we had our first song for Babes In Canyon.” A brace of songs in hand, the duo enlisted Michelle Nuño to track bass on their debut record, then headed to Hamer’s farmhouse to be close to nature, converting the bottom floor into a proper recording studio. Joining the band was vaunted producer &amp; engineer Jerry Streeter (Brandi Carlile, The Lumineers). “We recorded at night.” explains Hamer, “We’d step out between takes to watch the stars and listen to the owls.” Hitting the road for a spate of tours, festivals, and live performances, the duo conjure up layered soundscapes, “looping keys, beats, percussion effortlessly in an electric, raucous live performance” (Atwood Magazine). While thematically linked, each song by the band is laced with a strong sense of transition and individuality. “We try to create a sonic landscape of standing on a mountain just after a storm,” says Hamer, “when the first beams of sunlight start to break through the clouds.” With their first two EPs and latest single receiving praise from the likes of Under The Radar, Magnet, and Atwood Magazine, Babes In Canyon’s debut album “The New Loud” is set to release in 2025. Born and raised in the Walla Walla Valley, Diego always found himself fascinated with the art of music, and soon found himself fully engaged within his community. Growing up in a Hispanic household, he was exposed to multiple genres of music which included Corridos, Cumbia, Rock, Hip Hop, Country, Funk and much more. Though the love for diverse music began to grow, he realized the genre that connected with him the most was none other than the Blues. The emotion, feel, and rawness&nbsp;of the genre was more than enough to draw him in. Diego taught himself multiple instruments and learned to play bass guitar in high school jazz band. After playing bass for many years, he discovered that guitar was his true love. With inspiration from Freddie King, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Buddy Guy, Prince and most importantly, his personal mentor Gary&nbsp;Winston, it became clear that music is what he was wanting to pursue. The 25-year-old has now played numerous clubs and festivals across the Northwest for the last 4 years. He opened for none other than Curtis Salgado, and is continuing to expand his musical knowledge and network. Nationally touring comedian Andrew Sleighter comes to Bellingham for one-night only to perform at the Blue Room downtown! Andrew has been seen on Conan, The Late Late Show with James Corden and on Comedy Central. (And he's a WWU grad!)Tickets are $20, or $30 for VIP which includes front-row seating and a free handkerchief (you'll understand why a handkerchief when you see the joke).This is a self-produced show and ALL proceeds go to covering the costs of the production and to the artists themselves. So THANK YOU for choosing live comedy!The show starts at 7:00pm and will be approximately an hour and a half. There will be an opening comedian or two.

Stand-Up Comedy with Andrew Sleighter

A couple walks into the room, a historical barn near the dikes of the Skagit River. The room is bustling, filled with a quiet hum punctuated by glasses clinking and the occasional whoop of anticipation from the ever-growing crowd. The stage is backlit with a starry sky backdrop. Townes Van Zandt plays softly from the PA as the room fills and drinks are served. The couple sits down and strikes up a conversation with a soft-spoken man wearing a flannel shirt and a fedora, sipping a pint of IPA like he has someplace to be. The couple glances at each other as the man starts rambling about why guitars from the '30s sound so much better than those made today, they can't remember how they got to talking about this but are impressed with what seems like an uncommonly deep knowledge. He pauses long enough to glance up as several musicians move toward the stage, and his beer is gone. The background music fades out, and the announcement is made: “Please give a warm welcome to Benny Sidelinger!” He stands up, nods to the couple and turns toward the stage.Benny steps on stage and picks up an ancient banjo, its head worn from years of frailing, and the couple realizes they've been talking to the headliner himself. They'd heard about the show, but a few casually dropped references in their brief conversation with Benny has them curious, they both pull out their phones. A quick search reveals an interview on Dutch National TV before playing Rhythm and Blues in Groningen, performances with Grammy Award Winner Allison Russell, a banjo jam session on stage with Michael Franti, and festival appearances from Vancouver to Calgary to Newport. It reveals countless albums he's appeared on, Po' Girl, JT Nero, the Shiftless Rounders, the Blackberry bushes, the Pine hearts, the list goes on. He seems to have been everywhere, played with everyone.The lights dim, and the room fades. A band hovers on stage right, but on the stage it's just Benny now. The banjo begins to hum, then sing, then rip. With fingers moving impossibly fast as the music begins to vibrate and glow. Transitioning to another song he picks up a road worn guitar (the google search reveals that he built it himself). The slower, heartfelt ballad written for his first daughter is almost a relief. Subtly, the rest of the band adds layers to the sound one at a time. Benny's voice rings out, adding to the echoes of all the acts that have graced this same stage in the small Washington town. There is distance in that voice, and you can hear the miles and miles of road in the guitar, vibrating like smooth highways passing under weary tires.

Ballet and singing were her outlets early on.&nbsp;&nbsp;On weekends she would attend local dive bars with her mother and sing 90’s pop hits via karaoke.&nbsp; Home life became a serious challenge, watching her mother struggle with abusive relationships and money . From her teen years on, in many ways Francesca raised herself.&nbsp;&nbsp;Work ethic was important and she jumped in at an&nbsp;early age and kept on with this cycle never slowing down.&nbsp;&nbsp;After a short stint in NYC, Brown made her way back west.&nbsp; She settled in Los Angeles where she worked several waitressing jobs and even did some work as a photo double in film and tv.&nbsp; During her early twenties she found herself regularly escaping the hustle and bustle of the city.&nbsp;&nbsp; She spent much of her time in Topanga Canyon and nearby beaches indulging Jack Kerouac and listening to folk music.&nbsp;It was during this time when she began writing music, and knew she had found her calling.&nbsp;&nbsp;Cascade CodyA folk musician continuing in the spirit of the traditional roots of the great storytellers. Bringing life to old tales and new ones. Cody Jordan was born on December 27th 1991 in the city of Yakima, WA. To father John, and mother Kelly Jordan. In 1993 John and Kelly moved their family to Selah, WA. Growing up in on a 41 1/2 acre plot of land in the most northern bounds of Selah, which is referred to by locals as the area of Wenas, Cody learned to appreciate the beauty and landscapes of the area. Quiet was prevalent, and whilst experiencing the quiet Cody began writing poetry at a very young age. At the age of 13 Cody began writing raps, and pursued hip hop / rap music from the age of 13 into early adulthood. While doing so, he opened up for various headlining artists, however, Cody was not fulfilled pursuing the dream of his younger self. At 22 he decided to reinvent himself. In 2014 Cody decided to go to school at Yakima Valley College, where he was trained in the theatrical arts. Throughout his colligate career he wrote plays and acted in several productions spanning from musicals to Shakespeare. It was at this time, Cody’s love for music began to resurface. With his new found philosophy in regard to theatre, and education steeped in the liberal arts, as well as his passion for beautiful imagery, Cody began to pick up an old guitar that his parents bought him one childhood Christmas, and play skagit valley, folk music, music, live performers, country western music, whatcom county musician, bellingham, washington state music, acoustic guitar music, traditional folk music, fun music.

Smokey Brights have been steadily growing out of the mossy Pacific Northwest city of Seattle forover a decade. The band, formed by friends working together at a pizza restaurant, has roots inSeattle’s DIY punk, songwriter, and psych scenes. Through the group’s four LP and three EPreleases, you can hear Smokey Brights’ sonic branches stretching through 70’s prog, synthy newwave bops, fuzzy 90’s anthems, and intimate indie storytelling. You can also trace the lives andromance of songwriters Ryan Devlin and Kim West who married a few years after the formationof the band. The couple’s entangled approach to songwriting and melody has yielded aremarkable amount of original, genre bending music. Chad Henry and the Setbacks is a Northwest Washington based project, bringing influences spanning a wide range of genres from punk and hard rock, to folk and bluegrass to form their particular brand of rootsy soulful Americana.&nbsp;The lineup includes Luke Deryckx (drums), Dan Burnett (keys, violin, guitar), and Jim Reeder (bass) supporting Chad Henry’s songwriting, vocals and guitar. Victory is determined through crowd noise so bring your energy!!! The decibel level of a crowd mic will be projected to determine the winner of each round. There will be two semi-final rounds, and a final round between the winners of the previous round!

Nuages is a modern jazz Manouche ensemble, bringing the spirit of Django to the 21st&nbsp;century. Drawing inspiration from each member’s musical background, the group presents a high-energy yet sensitive take on the chamber group format. Audiences love Nuages’ fusion of old and new jazz styles, interwoven with elements of classical and folk musics, French chanson, bluegrass, and more. Each performance brings something new to the table while being grounded by a love of Django and a love of each other.With over ten years of performing and 4 albums under their belt, Nuages has been a mainstay in Northwest Washington’s jazz scene. They have performed twice at Djangofest Northwest, as well as many concerts and events throughout the region. Pure Halcyon is a five-piece modern rock band based in Bellingham, WA. With vocals similar to Hayley Williams and the tightest rhythm section in town, Pure Halcyon brings a unique twist to hard-hitting rock and timeless covers. After their formation in 2020, the band released their debut EP "Short Story Long" in 2021. Their latest project "Nothing Set in Stone" was released in December of 2023. Pure Halcyon has been featured in Cascadia Daily News, on 88.3 KMRE, and on 94.9 KZAX.&nbsp;&nbsp;Pure Halcyon has played shows across western Washington for over four years with multiple sold-out shows in Bellingham. Self-produced Indie-Rock artist and internet personality Carter Vail has quietly amassed 600k+ social media followers by releasing music that somehow combines elements of Lo-Fi, disco, and even Bossa nova without compromising an undeniable indie-rock feel that places him somewhere between Mac Demarco, Cake , and Phoenix. He does it all with a playful, feel-good aesthetic that doesn’t shy away from heavier themes of loss, love and growing up. Carter’s reputation for creative and hilarious short form video content has earned him partnerships with brands ranging from Starbucks to Dave’s Killer Bread and Tillamook cheese. The original jingles he’s made for those brands are probably the most unique application of a University of Miami music school degree you’ll find on the internet. He also does Ju Jitsu everyday, bench presses the combined weight of a typical indie band, and will run a marathon without training. His album, 100 cowboys, comes out via Assemble Sound in June 2024.

Magenta Wave is an alternative indie-rock band that started playing live in Bellingham, Washington during the spring of 2022.&nbsp;The group quickly made their way into established venues, playing shows at the Wild Buffalo, the Shakedown, and the Blue Room.Notorious for emotionally charged vocal melodies supplemented with evocative guitar solos, their sound constantly evolves as the musicians grow as both artists and human beings.&nbsp;In the fall of 2023 the band relocated to Seattle, where they share a house together. They took little time to settle, playing shows at the Sunset Tavern, Barboza, and the Tractor Tavern. The group was quick to capitalize upon their momentum with a strong debut headlining performance at the historic Central Saloon.&nbsp;The band entered the studio for the first time last fall. Two days spent at the Hallowed Halls in Portland last November resulted in the recording of four songs. Aided by the team of recording engineers &amp; producers Matthew Blount &amp; William Mapp (who was also the mixing engineer) from the band MARBLE, and mastering engineer Ed Brooks (Pearl Jam, Death Cab for Cutie), they are excited to finally share their music with the world.Their debut project, “Sold My Soul” will be available to stream on all platforms August 16th.&nbsp;Balcony Bridge is a four piece rock band from Seattle that encapsulates the amalgamation of rock that 4 late millennials grew up listening to. Repeating Gossip x Fyre Alarm

ann annie&nbsp;is the stage name for Portland based composer&nbsp;Eli Goldberg. The project began as a way for Eli to explore the world of modular synths and ambient music. As the project grew and took form, he slowly introduced various acoustic instruments into his compositions – most notably in their recent album ‘the wind’. This new sound combines aspects of classical orchestras with string and horn instruments, old country guitar twang and that original electronic modulation to form something wholly unique. Their live show consists of a trio of piano, saxophone, cello and modular synth performing dreamy, sometimes improvisational, chamber music mixed with atmospheric synth soundscapes.

Celtic + castilian fiddle duo, María San Miguel and Galen Fraser, are multi-instrumentalists and educators who celebrate the values of community and traditional music in their unique chamber music style. San Miguel Fraser is a project that will always stand for connection, celebrating the joy of music and shared inspiration. The dynamic duo was born as a result of the 2020 quarantine with the&nbsp;“Stay At Home Festival”.

Irish music is mostly known for its jigs and reels, but in West Kerry, the polka is king. This workshop is a perfect opportunity to take another look at these deceptively tricky tunes. You might learn a new tune or two, or for those well-versed in polkaing, maybe you'll find a new perspective. We'll also talk a bit about one of the more challenging aspects of polkas: accompaniment. Orkney (Scotland) born fiddler Louise Bichan and Indiana (USA) mandolinist Ethan Setiawan present a collaboration and meeting of their musical worlds. A path steeped in the fiddle traditions of their respective sides of the Atlantic, the journey taken wends through Scottish, oldtime, and Swedish inspired music intertwined with contemporary compositions. Bichan’s fiddle is a melodic foil to Setiawan’s counterpoint and harmonic depth, and the two weave in and out seamlessly.

Niall Ó Murchú from Cork and Dublin, Ireland is a part of Ireland’s Gaelic linguistic minority and the global diaspora of Irish speakers. He has taught at Fairhaven College, Western Washington University since 2001, and plans to bring students to Galway and the Donegal Gaeltacht in July 2023.

Considered one of the most talented Irish musicians in America today, flautist, whistle player, singer, and Juno Award-winner Hanz Araki has been lauded by publications and audiences alike.&nbsp;&nbsp;Three decades of musical exploration into Irish, Scottish, Japanese, and American traditions has yielded his distinct style described by Fatea Magazine as “achingly beautiful.” As the sixth generation of his family to bear the title Araki Kodo, Hanz (short for Hanzaburo, his great-great grandfather’s name) spent his formative years mastering the Japanese end-blown bamboo flute.&nbsp;&nbsp;Discovering and relishing the melodic and mechanical similarities between shakuhachi and Irish whistle, Hanz applied his natural capacity and boundless curiosity to his Irish heritage.&nbsp;&nbsp;Taking advantage of the rich Irish music scene in Seattle, where he spent his youth, Hanz quickly became known for his exquisite instrumental work on both Irish whistle and flute and a haunting singing voice that was born to tell tales.

Ireland first started singing at church when she was six years old, and went on to perform in musicals soon after. Now being a licensed esthetician and running her small business Beauty by the Woods, Ireland still makes music a large part of her life. You can catch her performing all around Skagit, Whatcom and Snohomish county solo with her acoustic guitar, singing harmonies with her sisters, or with her music groups Sweetwood or The Problem, a funk/jazz collective. His musical journey spans both original and cover performances with various bands. Beyond the bass, Eric is a&nbsp;multi-instrumentalist also &nbsp;music composition&nbsp;and&nbsp;audio engineering. His passion for music finds a new home as he joins the&nbsp;Swifty experience.Mike Holm - Drums, backing vocalsMike Holm is a session drummer with experience in funk, pop, and rock, skilled at matching his playing style, drum tuning and dynamics to a range of musical contexts. Mike has built a home studio where he records live drums with artists across the globe. From dance pop with The Trash Pandas, indie rock with Straight Lines Bright Colors, and the highly syncopated funk-rap fusion of Patterns of Saturn, Mike is always able to pull something from his deep bag of grooves and masterfully blend it to fit the time and place.
