Beyond the Surface is a connection event unlike any other. It was inspired by the idea of speed dating, in that you switch partners throughout the experience. But this is not about dating. We remove the stigma and the expectations and focus on authentic face to face connections. Think of it like speed dating for friends!The event was created by Sharlene Durfey François in April 2024 in Berlin. She is an artist and a connector and the creator of a gorgeous deck of Intimacy Cards. Her mission is to redefine intimacy and to help people (not just couples) learn to create deeper connections that lead to stronger communities and better relationships. Motivated by the lack of intimacy in the world after the pandemic, the cards were born, and soon after, the event.By gamifying intimacy with 3 levels: Energetic (no touching, no talking, but definitely connecting), Emotional (answering questions designed to find and reveal your authentic self) and Physical (playful platonic interactions, consent driven) you are taken on an adventure that is even proven to appeal to introverts. And for you extroverts out there, it's a smorgasbord! It's a gentle ride, but also pushes you enough to help you grow just a little bit. And it's super fun and sure to surprise you.Many participants reflect on how they got to know themselves better after experiencing this event. Others reflected on how it felt so good to step outside of their regular bubble to meet new people in such an intimate and safe setting.
