Based in Bogota, Meridian Brothers is a psychedelic salsa-infused neo-tropicalista group that delivers an avant-garde musical experience.&nbsp; Founder Eblis Álvarez launched the group in 1998 as a musical laboratory, from his roots with the ephemeral Ensamble Polifónico Vallenato project. The group had been experimenting with traditional Colombian music (vallenato, cumbia, palenquero, gaita) for modern ears.&nbsp; The New York Times, reviewing their 2022 release, called their unique sound "a psychedelic fever dream, a deep dive into salsa’s past, a critique of society’s surrender to technology, and a new musical encounter between Colombia’s sophisticated capital of Bogotá and its rustic Caribbean coast." The opening set features DJ Krishna Villar. The event is free, presented by Rhythm Foundation and Tigre Sounds as part of the Tigre Global Sounds Series, which has begun introducing innovative artists from Latin America and beyond to Miami audiences.

Early arrival is strongly suggested. “When Alejandro and I play together, it’s like we are driving a car,” says Estevan Gutiérrez, one half of the guitar duo Hermanos Gutiérrez. “It’s like we are taking a road trip. Sometimes we’re driving through a desert. Sometimes we’re traveling up the coast. But always we are in nature, and we see the most beautiful landscapes, sunrises, sunsets.” The music these two brothers make evokes expansive plains and rough wildernesses, saguaros and surfs, spaghetti westerns and Morricone soundtracks, Lynch and Jarmusch. ABOUT LA DAME BLANCHE: With her always expanding and singular mix of hip hop, female empowerment, dancehall, and catchy beats, singer, flautist, and percussionist Yaite Ramos Rodriguez, aka La Dame Blanche, delivers a powerful and compelling sound that summons the spirits.Born and raised in Pinar del Rio, she was the daughter of Jesús "Aguaje" Ramos, the artistic director of the Buena Vista Social Club orquestra, her days on the island filled with dancing and singing, though it was in Paris that she began sharing her music with artists around the world. This Cuban living in Paris creates blends in every aspect; between Latin and Urban, Cumbia and Hip-Hop, the strong and the sensual, and the stage lights a show and the flame of a candle in a ritual. When Devendra Banhart first emerged two decades ago, his eccentric persona, falsetto-heavy singing, and sprawling aesthetic made him the poster child of the then-burgeoning freak folk movement. He wasn’t merely prolific and extroverted in championing this style-colliding cultural moment, he also worked as an advocate for fellow travelers and overlooked heroes such as the great British folk singer Vashti Bunyan, whose career he helped resurrect. Over time the eccentricities of the Venezuelan-raised explorer have been moderated, and now the tender beauty and airiness of his music is no longer obscured by his old hippie persona. Still, the basic building blocks of his expansive sound endure, blending American folk with acoustic traditions of South America, particularly the breezy pop, spare arrangements and chill bossa nova of Brazil.Opening set by Maye!

Last year, the buzz surrounding Brazilian musician Munir Hossn broke through the pandemic malaise. It felt like all the jazz and music-heads were talking about an iconoclastic musical genius living right in our midst in North Beach. And suddenly, he was popping up everywhere - featured in sets by innovative jazz and international artists, at festivals, bringing his unique style to our stage. Now we feature a full evening with Mr. Hossn, who promises a journey through his sensory and intellectual musical landscape, as he takes over the November edition of the monthly North Beach Social - starting with some unreleased songs played solo, leading into some AfroBrazilian Jazz by his trio, and closing with his ’supergroup’ Elas.&nbsp;Mr. Hossn was born in a humble home in Salvador, Bahia, from a family whose heritage included African, European, Middle Eastern and indigenous ancestry. He began working as a musician at just age 10, leaving behind formal schooling to instead soak up knowledge from experienced players. By the time he was 15, he was accompanying acclaimed Brazilian names like Hermeto Pascoal, Roberto Mendes, Daniela Mercury, Gilberto Gil, and Lenine. He next moved into the international arena, and has collaborated with artists including Joe Zawinul Syndicate, Didier Lockwood, Jorge Drexler, Concha Buika, Quincy Jones, Alfredo Rodriguez, Richard Bona, and many more.His group ELAS is dedicated to women, and features four stellar female artists: Clarissa Vieira (Cello), Yissy Garcia (Drums), Magela Herrera (Flute/Keyboards), and Totti Lamadrid (Piano)

Dance NOW! Miami’s first concert of the season, Fall For Dance NOW! will herald the holiday season featuring the sneak preview of DNM’s Deconstructed Nutcracker. This playful take on the holiday favorite will thrill and enchant audiences with a contemporary version of the traditional Tchaikovsky score. The evening of dance under the autumn skies will also feature “Short Stories in the Garden” a collaboration with the South Beach Chamber Ensemble originally created by Artistic directors Diego Salterini &amp; Hannah Baumgarten for presentation at the Miami Beach Botanical Garden in April 2021. "The 8-Bit Big Band is a Grammy-winning, genre-bending jazz orchestra formed around the love of video games, their associated soundtracks, and the musical desire to explore and expand an ever-growing contemporary body of music which the group has lovingly dubbed ""The Great Video Game Songbook."" They are a symphonic jazz orchestra of 30 of New York City's finest musicians—re-arranging beloved music from the video game soundtracks of the last 30 years into genre-fusing contemporary large ensemble music. Their sound, fueled by blues rock, is special because it is also anchored in the Latin rhythms of their home, and a freshness of their grooves. This is the sound of the cool kids at [is there some part of Buenos Aires where the cool kids hang out, or an iconic music club or something?], but also ready for international audiences. The group has played at Lollapalooza in Argentina, and toured throughout Latin America. This Miami Beach date is part of their US debut tour.This free concert is presented by Tigre Studios and Rhythm Foundation, in partnership with Casalú.

Cimafunk is by far the most exciting new face in the Latin music space. Singer, composer and producer, the young Cuban sensation offers a bold mix of funk with Cuban music and African rhythms, which is currently revolutionizing the island’s music scene.Cimafunk is a cimarrón, a free being defying classification, a pilgrim in search of new musical miscegenation and the reunion of black music. By bringing out the best in Cuban rhythms and traditions and infusing sounds and styles from Africa and the U.S.,&nbsp;Cimafunk is redefining contemporary Cuban music as well as Afro-Latin identity and the fusion of black cultures. Celebrating gede, a Haitian all-souls’-day holiday ritual with music, dancing and laughter.Voudou rock legends RAM are a mizik rasin (roots music) powerhouse Haitian band, who embody the joy and power of gede. Folkloric polyrhythms intertwine harmoniously with punk guitar riffs and Caribbean dance melodies, drums, and rara horns. Theirs is the sound of triumph over travail, a progressive vision of tradition, infusing Haitian rhythms kompa, rara, twoubadou, and vodou with rock.Bandleader Richard Morse, a third generation musician (his mother was revered Haitian folk singer Emerante de Pradines), began his career as a student, playing in a New Wave band in 1970s New York City’s CBGB scene. He returned to Haiti as a young man and took over the Oloffson Hotel. RAM was born from his musical explorations with the hotel’s in-house musicians. RAM has now been playing groundbreaking Haitian music for nearly 30 years, building fans at home and worldwide. Their release for kanaval is an annual highlight in Haiti. The group also has become a featured part of Krewe du Kanaval, a New Orleans-based project by Arcade Fire’s Win Butler and Regine Chassagne with the iconic Preservation Hall Jazz Band.

In the years between 2018's BAMBI and LP3, Minneapolis' Hippo Campus -- made up of vocalist/guitarists Jake Luppen and Nathan Stocker, drummer Whistler Allen, bassist Zach Sutton, and trumpeter DeCarlo Jackson -- has grown up and into itself. Although the five-piece has been friends since middle school and put out a number of studio releases since its inception, it's the new record, LP3, that's the most honest portrait of who Hippo Campus is. What Hippo Campus wanted with LP3 was something all five of them could agree on, the way they'd made music in the early days of the band. As their profile grew, they found themselves compromising on their visions, thinking about how fans would interact with their music, and plagued by an unsustainable industry ecosystem. Now, they just wanted unity. LP3 is, then, their strongest and most complete work yet -- a freshly-inked portrait excavating young adulthood and identity and, more importantly, how that personal identity fits into a larger camaraderie. It looks at how growing up can just feel like something that's always moving past you when you're trying to grab a hold of it; it's a push-and-pull of letting go or holding tighter -- and figuring out what matters the most. Through cinematic, sonic clarity, LP3 is a sweeping account of courage and tenacity; tender-hearted stumbling that leads you on the right path after all. North Beach Social, 3rd Thursdays at the Bandshell, returns for a new season - a free monthly night of music and community, featuring our favorite Miami-based artists. The triumphant return of the Miami-born six-piece band whose music is an amalgam of yacht rock, boogie-funk and wavy synth jazz. The group launched in 2011, ultimately gaining the attention of Peoples Potential Unlimited and Red Bull Music Academy (where bandleader Mickey de Grand IV spent a month at RBMA Tokyo). The band has showcased at Primavera Sound in Barcelona. They have also contributed tracks for artists including SZA and Denzel Curry. Their second album, released last year, is a collage work of rock &amp; roll, synth and TV theme genres, and leads them to return to the Bandshell stage for the October edition of North Beach Social.This evening opens with an homage to Norman Giller (original 1961 Bandshell architect) as the Jewish Museum of Florida FIU closes out the 'Giller on Giller" exhibit. Following a raucous, guest filled headlining appearance at North Beach Music Festival 2021, the high-flying jam band is back at the Bandshell for a full, two set show. The band is touring in support of their new album, 'Perspective', released in April '22.&nbsp;Hailed as “musical explorers” by Rolling Stone, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong first took flight roughly a decade ago at the University of Maryland, and the pysch-funk trailblazers have since gone on to play more than a thousand shows across 44 states. A Spanish language children’s theater delightful who-done-it, featuring the mysterious disappearance of a delicious tart, and a party full of musicians and colorful costumed insects. The producer, Rita Rosa Ruesga, is a four-time Grammy award nominee who has reached thousands of children with musical projects for young audiences across Latin America, the Caribbean, the USA and beyond. Rita has produced several recordings of children’s music, for which she has received international acclaim, and has worked with such renowned artists as Celia Cruz and Ricky Martin, and others.Produced by Rhythm Foundation and FUNDarte, as part of City of Miami Beach Arts in the Parks series.This program is in Spanish, but the story can be easily followed by speakers of any language, and is appropriate for audiences of all ages.

Los Auténticos Decadentes (Spanish for "The Authentic Decadents") is an Argentine band that mixes ska with Latin American rhythms. The band was formed around the year 1986 by Cucho and Nito, who invited Gastón to join them. Their first hit was Veni Raquel, which set the tone for the irreverence and ironic humor of their later lyrics. Many of their songs are classic anthems of the Argentine nightlife, such as Corazón, Loco (Tu Forma de Ser), Entregá el Marrón, La Guitarra, Los Piratas and El Murguero. For some of their hit songs and videos, the Decandentes have engaged many Argentine icons such as former soccer referee Guillermo Nimo and the later candombe singer Alberto Castillo. As they draw from traditions such as canzonetta, murga bands and cantina songs, they are popular with many generations.

Tigre Sounds and Rhythm Foundation kick off a Global Sounds Concert Series for citizens of the world with this debut by the Cuban singer, flautist and percussionist Yaite Ramos Rodriguez, aka <a href="https://www.boaviagemmusic.com/artist/la-dame-blanche/" target="_blank">La Dame Blanche</a>.La Dame Blanche grew up amid family gatherings of extraordinary musicians, and the cream of Cuban music. Her father, the trombonist Jesus “Aguaje” Ramos, was the artistic director of the legendary Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club. Following her heart, she decamped to Paris, and immersed herself in the City of Light’s melting-pot. She joined the all-girl salsa band Rumbana, and the Grand Orchestre du Splendid, became a back-up singer with Sergent Garcia and live singer for El Hijo de la Cumbia. These experiences helped give birth to her musical alter-ego, finding her unique voice in a sonic jungle that fuses AfroCuban rumba, hip hop, reggae,and jazz. Miamibloco is proud to welcome Mestres Guilherme and Gustavo Oliveira of G.R.E.S. Acadêmicos do Salgueiro, 9x champion of Rio de Janeiro’s carnaval parade competition. Born and raised in the Tijuca neighborhood of Rio, the brothers have spent their entire lives as part of the Salgueiro samba school and in 2019 were named Mestres of the school’s drum section, Bateria Furiosa. Salgueiro has excelled under their leadership, and year after year they garner perfect scores from judges for their creative bossas and thunderous groove.Every other Monday from September 19th to December 12th Miamibloco opens its doors to share an experiential taste of Afrobrazilian percussion with our community. We'll learn about a specific rhythm and co-reate an arrangement within the hour.The inaugural Miamibloco Monday community workshop will be led by the Mestres of Bateria Furiosa, and Miamibloco's director Brian Potts from 6-7pm. Gabel has been awarded countless awards and accolades within the Haitian Music Industry and has toured the US, Canada, Haitian the French Caribbean and Paris many times. Recently during the Covid-19 quarantine, they set aside time for philanthropic work. They provided free virtual concerts, accompanied by medical professionals to share health information within the Haitian-American community. They are working now on new music and video, and look forward to performing before live audiences.Nancy St Leger Dance Ensemble is a Little Haiti-based Haitian folkloric 6-member dance company was founded by Nancy St Leger, a dancer and educator. Her favorite dances are what she called ‘warrior dances’ - ibo, petro and nago. She teaches purely Haitian folkloric dance styles at the Little Haiti Cultural Complex (currently on hold for Covid-19). The Ensemble dancers are students and parents who give freely of their time to be part of a vision to promote Haitian dance with pride. Some recent celebrity sightings for the group have included their part in Rihanna and DJ Khaled’s video “Wild Thoughts”, appearing on Black Ink Crew Miami, on stage with Arcade Fire during their last visit to Miami, and with Harmonik at CompasFest. He is the son of legendary Malian guitar player Ali Farka Touré, who died in 2006. Vieux was initially a drummer / calabash player at Mali’s Institut National des Arts, but secretly began playing guitar in 2001. As a passionate champion for the people of Mali and The Sahel, Vieux founded the charity Amahrec Sahel in 2012. Vieux is also the director of The Ali Farka Touré Foundation, an international organization dedicated to the preservation of Ali’s legacy and the cultural growth of Mali.Reggae artist <a href="www.facebook.com/philip.montalban.127%20" target="_blank">Phillip Montalbán</a> is an Afro-Nicaraguan singer / songwriter who blends Mestizo, Afro-Caribbean and the indigenous cultures of Miskito, Rama, and Garifuna influences together musically. His albums range from showcasing a mix of Creole English and Spanish to his presenting specific Miskito words in song lyrics. He is an&nbsp;intense, serious songwriter noted for his thoughtful songs of love, harmony, and hope that call for Africans everywhere to unite.&nbsp;<a href="https://www.facebook.com/Fulumusic%20" target="_blank">Fulu Miziki</a> is a multidisciplinary ensemble of musicians from Kinshasa (Democratic Republic of Congo) founded by Old Pisko Crane. For several years, Pisko envisioned an orchestra made from materials found in trash cans and dumps. The instruments vary constantly in search of new sounds. Fulu Miziki’s artists make their own performance costumes, masks and instruments. Their distinct sound supports a Pan-African message of artistic liberation, peace and a deep concern about the ecological situation of the Democratic Republic of Congo and the whole world. For Fulu everything can be reclaimed and re-enchanted.

This is a live-stream event - no live audience.The Arsht Center’s Free Gospel Sundays returns for its 14th season of spirited performances Sunday, November 15 with a virtual concert featuring Pastor Marc Cooper &amp; Friends, and Lady of Harp. Streaming live from the North Beach Bandshell, the event will begin at 5 p.m. Calvin Hughes of WPLG Local 10 News will host. Pastor of Upper Room Ministries in Miami Gardens, Marc Cooper has been playing music since childhood. In 1995, he co-founded the Stellar Award-winning Miami Mass Choir, the longtime resident ensemble for Free Gospel Sundays. That same year, the original Marc Cooper &amp; Friends released Glory, Glory, an album of high-powered, joy-filled gospel songs, many written by Cooper. Since then, he has founded his own record label and released several critically acclaimed recordings with Miami Mass Choir. The Lady of Harp, Crystal Sawyer, has performed throughout South Florida and the Caribbean as a solo act and with various ensembles and orchestras. She has directed harp ensembles for children, appeared at events such as Buskerfest and collaborated with jazz and classical musicians, dancers, choreographers, poets and visual artists. This will be her first performance at Free Gospel Sundays. We are welcoming back to the Free Gospel Sundays stage the sign-language movement troupe Hands at Work for Christ, founded nearly 20 years ago by Daniela Jean. Hands at Work for Christ is a choreographed praise fusion of sign language and music. Free Gospel Sundays is presented with the generous support of Rodney and Michelle Adkins; Green Family Foundation; The Israel, Rose, Henry &amp; Robert Wiener Charitable Foundation and Friends of Free Gospel Sundays.
