Carla Hunter has studied music and practiced playing the piano since she was 10 years old. She earned a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance with High Distinction from Indiana University. She has continued to play throughout her professional career in finance and accounting. Now Carla is thrilled to be playing chamber music with the wonderful cellist and her dear friend Elizabeth Morrow. Elizabeth Morrow moved to Niwot for retirement after a career as a professional performer and University Cello Professor. She considers herself the luckiest of the lucky to have landed in such a beautiful and welcoming community! Collaborating with Carla Hunter has been the cherry on top of a lifetime musical career.

Drawing upon a variety of influences, Wirtz paints musical portraits with a sustained intensity. Each performance invites listeners into a realm where tradition meets innovation, eroding stylistic boundaries. In 2024 he was recognized as a Most Distinguished Musician at the 2nd Prize level in the IBLA Grand Prize International Music Competition for the title track to his album "Beautiful Illusion."On this night he will be joined by trumpet extraordinairre Shane Endsley (Kneebody), and low end specialist Charlie Mertens (Rapidgrass). Nina Simone is known as The High Priestess of Soul, but listen carefully and you will discover a Baroque enthusiast. Simone dreamt of becoming the first African-American concert pianist in the US, but financial challenges and racism necessitated her turn to R&amp;B bars and jazz clubs. In Simone’s music and improvisations you can distinctly hear J.S. Bach's impressions and even direct quotes from Bach fugues and preludes. Simone admired the compositions of J.S. Bach, and in her autobiography recalls how her rendition of Love Me Or Leave Me came out of an attempt to compose a Bach-like fugue.In this tribute, Nani Vazana expands on Simone’s Bach quotations with her own classically oriented take. Seamlessly fusing pieces and songs including the 1st invention in C into My Baby Just Cares For Me, the Arioso in G into I Loves You Porgy, and others.Nani Vazana is an acclaimed international singer, composer, pianist and trombonist. Chase Street Jam

Going strong for 27 years, the Johnny O. Band maintains a firm foothold on the Colorado music scene. In the past two decades Johnny O has toured in Brazil, all across Europe and recently played shows in Canada and Mexico. The band has opened up for the Allman Brothers, Taj Mahal, Buddy Miles and Jimmy Vaughn, among others. Johnny O has travel down to Memphis Tennessee for the International Blues Challenge on three separate occasions representing Colorado, winning the Colorado blue society IBC solo duo competition in 2011 and the winners of the Colorado blue society band competition in 2009. The Johnny O Band plays around 100 show a year and is currently working on local, regional and international bookings for 2025.

The workshop will run from 3pm-6pm, followed by a showcase from 7-8:30pm, in which both Judy and the participants will perform with a piano trio...(tba).Fee: $75 for participants in the Workshop, $40 for auditors, concert entrance included.The focus of the workshop will be on improvisation and interpretation. Beginning with Judy's "Hear it and Sing It" improvisation exercises, student will each receive coaching in a masterclass where they'll focus on a song of their choice and work on interpretation and style. Please bring lead sheets for 2 different songs in your key from the standard jazz repertoire (three copies for the band). A graduate of UNC's prestigious Jazz program, he is both a band leader and has collaborated with many notable groups in Colorado including: The Denver Jazz Orchestra, The Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra, Sarah Mount &amp; the Rushmores, Titonic, and the Hot Tomatoes.Currently, Kyle tours frequently with the famous Glenn Miller Orchestra as their baritone saxophonist. Mosaic is a forward-thinking band that embodies spontaneous creativity and diverse musical expressions. These songs serve the larger purpose of telling stories through music, a calling that is central to their identity as musicians. The band is led by pianist and composer Ethan Frank, a Colorado native who began his journey in the Denver music scene. Going strong for 26 years, the Johnny O. Band maintains a firm foothold on the Colorado music scene. In the past two decades Johnny O has toured in Brazil, all across Europe and recently played shows in Canada and Mexico. The band has opened up for the Allman Brothers, Taj Mahal, Buddy Miles and Jimmy Vaughn, among others. Johnny O has travel down to Memphis Tennessee for the International Blues Challenge on three separate occasions representing Colorado, winning the Colorado blue society IBC solo duo competition in 2011 and the winners of the Colorado blue society band competition in 2009. The Johnny O Band plays around 100 show a year and is currently working on local, regional and international bookings for 2024.

Dawn Clement and Steve Kovalcheck are a dynamic duo&nbsp;in the world of modern creative music, each bringing a wealth of talent and expertise to their collaborative projects. Clement, a celebrated pianist, vocalist, and composer, has been a prominent figure in jazz for over two decades. Her impressive career includes performances with jazz greats such as Jane Ira Bloom, and Julian Priester and she has recorded with GRAMMY-nominated vocal ensemble, säje. Clement currently serves as Associate Professor at MSU Denver and has recently been appointed Artistic Director of the Centrum Jazz Workshop. Joining forces with Clement is Kovalcheck, a talented guitarist renowned for his exceptional skills and creativity. While having worked professionally in Nashville and New York, Kovalcheck has called Colorado home since 2007. Kovalcheck performs and records with Akiko/Hamilton/Kovalcheck and also performs with the Clayton Hamilton Jazz Orchestra. While in Colorado, he serves on the faculty of the jazz studies department at UNC Greeley. Together, Clement and Kovalcheck form an engaging duo, captivating audiences with their innovative and magical performances.

Bassist, composer, and educator Matt Smiley navigates his broad sonic world with imagination, openness, and artistic vision. Matt merges his deep roots in the jazz bass tradition with modern explorations of sound, texture, and improvisation from the world of contemporary composition, making him a favorite and frequent collaborator of creative musicians across a variety of musical genres. Matt is joined by St. Louis based improviser and composer Alex Cunningham and Wyoming percussionist Ron Coulter for a night of improvised music.

Back by popular demand, the Diamond Edwards Duo! Mark Diamond (bass/vocals) and Ed Edwards (guitar/vocals) have been a team for well over a decade and in the music business for over 40 years. They play together in numerous bands including Milestone, Los Bohemios, The Jake Edwards Band and The DEF Trio. Along with the acoustic guitar, upright bass, and harmony vocals, live looping is incorporated into their music, so although there are only two musicians performing, the result is the sound of a four piece band. This is a special performance in that the audience will have the opportunity to request songs everyone knows and loves. The duo has more than 400 classic rock, folk, blues (and more) songs in their repertoire. This show is interactive and so much fun!

With a restless musical spirit, he explores all forms of jazz from traditional to avant-garde as well as classical music, world music and experimental electronic music. Venezuelan Bassist and composer Gonzalo Teppa presents his new project “Gonzalo Teppa, Origins”, performing his most recent original music that draws from the musical wells of Latin American roots (Venezuelan, Brazilian, Argentinian, and Afro-Cuban), ballads, Jazz and more. Each composition and arrangement written by Gonzalo is inspired in the origins of each of his bandmembers as well as his native country-Venezuela-. This new ensemble features: singer Josefina Mendez (Argentina), guitarist Gabriel Santiago (Brazil), drummer Alejandro Castaño (Colombia-Cuba) and bassist Gonzalo Teppa (Venezuela).

The Duo of Elena (voice) and Khabu (guitar, bass guitar) explores original compositions and open improvisations, along with jazz standards, Brazilian and Italian songs. Thelonious Monk, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Carlo Alberto Rossi are among the favorite composers whose music provides a platform for wide interpretation and improvisation.Since their meeting in May 2009, Elena &amp; Khabu have been composing and performing as a duo around Colorado, New York City, New England, Texas, Maine and Italy. Additionally, they have been giving workshops in open and jazz improvisation, for vocalists, guitarists, and other instrumentalists.

From their new recording, “Break Law at a Time”: these songs are in the same vein as John Prine, Neil Young, and Donald Fagen. They decided to record the music as a duet to put the emphasis on the songs and not the production.&nbsp; Hopefully the songs will entertain and provoke some thought!Eric Moon has played with everyone from Charlie Pride, Vince Gill, Victor Wooten; while in Los Angeles, Moon produced and co-wrote a number one hit for Malaysian singer Ella, composed music for cable TV and national television ads, toured Europe as keyboardist for German punk icon Nina Hagen, ran the computers on a series of shows for Icelandic superstar Bjork, designed sounds for Alesis Synthesizers&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;For fifteen years, Gary played piano and was the lead singer in the Steely Dan tribute band, Kid Charlemagne.&nbsp; In 1995, he and Eric Moon created Sons of Igor, a reunion and second record is happening. &nbsp; Gary has cowritten four musicals that have been performed in New York City, Chicago, Cincinnati, Denver and Washington, DC.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Recently, the Gary Bragg Band added his son Miles on the bass.&nbsp; The band plays shows that consist of an original set and then a tribute set of a classic artist.&nbsp; At this point the list includes Neil Young, The Band, John Lennon, John Prine, Pink Floyd, and Joe Jackson.Opening music will be performed by Eben Grace.

She has danced with gypsies, shared coffee with Bedouins, sipped tea in the House of Lords, sung jazz for Transylvanian Franciscan monks – her delivery is shaped by rich experience. Heidi launched her professional singing career in Eastern Europe, refined it touring throughout Western Europe, and produced three albums while living in Romania.Based in Denver since 1980, pianist and composer Eric Gunnison has led a distinguished career during which he has not only established himself as one of the mainstays of the Mile High City’s vibrant jazz scene as an instrumentalist, bandleader and educator, but has also attracted a global following performing, touring and recording with internationally renowned jazz artists, particularly jazz vocalists. Gunnison’s current associations include touring internationally as well as recording with the sensational vocalist Roberta Gambarini, whom he has accompanied since 2001, and, since 2005, as pianist with the Dizzy Gillespie All-Stars Big Band and Sextet with which he has toured the U.S., Europe and Asia. He has also performed with vocalist Rene Marie and the Christian McBride Big Band among others.

On September 7th, bassist and composer Alex Annan brings his quartet along with Denver vocalist Kelsey Wallner to the Muse Performance Space to celebrate the release of his latest album "Northern Dreams."A creative collaboration between Alex, Kelsey and guitarist Ben Hall, alongside producer Andrew Janak, "Northern Dreams" is a modern jazz album that features influence from minimalist, folk, and rock music. It features original compositions from Alex and Ben and original lyrics from Alex and Kelsey. The album personnel is completed with pianist Ian McCune and drummer Ian Spillman.For this performance, Alex is joined by Kelsey Wallner, Ben Hall, Ian McCune, and Gabe Mangione with a special appearance from saxophonist Andrew Janak, and will play the album in its entirely along with other original works from Alex and other members of the band!Please come and join Alex with his group to celebrate the release of his fourth album, "Northern Dreams" on September 7th at 7pm at the Muse Performance Space!

Ike Spivak is an American multi-instrumentalist, music producer, voice actor, and educator based in Denver, Colorado. His 2022 release,&nbsp;Earth to Isaac,&nbsp;features original music heavily influenced by Jazz, EDM, and Hip-hop genres.Since 2020 Ike has been&nbsp;working for Pan-Asian Creations LLC to do voice acting and produce sound for Holiday toys including Target's viral success, "Lewis" the pumpkin ghoul.After composing four original big-band arrangements and winning first place at the Next Generation Jazz Festival with the Lamont Jazz Orchestra, Ike graduated from University of Denver with a degree in jazz saxophone in 2019. In the same year, he recorded saxophone on Away from Home, an album by Venezuelan bassist, Gonzalo Teppa. The Colorado Music Teachers Association gave Ike their Commissioned Composer Award in 2021.Ike is also an active educator who has worked with the Colorado Conservatory for the Jazz Arts and with private students since 2015.
