Highly respected within their communities, they are the keepers of the factual history and the fictional fables of past rulers, nobles, social groups and families. Artist Statement:The large format camera is limited in a sense. It takes time to set up the camera, to focus, compose, calculate exposure time, and finally make the exposure. But within that limitation I’ve found room for deep exploration and connection between my choice of equipment, the natural world, and myself. I only have a set number of exposures, sometimes only one or two, forcing me to really look and try to understand what I see. The print itself is precious metal; it will not fade, it will not discolor, so long as the cotton paper base survives so will the image. Each print is unique. No two are exactly alike due to their hand made nature. When viewing each photograph I am brought back to each place I stood. I can feel the cold wind, see the mist from the falling water, hear the rushing torrent or gentile burble.I have chosen to have an element of water in each photograph as a way to depict the passing of time to draw attention to change that is often overlooked. I’m trying to narrow the gaze, to focus in on these particulars, on how time changes our view of the environment, because it’s happening incrementally, and we often don’t have the time to notice. But if you pause, as a photograph asks you to do, you can see that the force and power of the water, just like time, offers change. About the Artist:Nick Ellison is a mechanical engineer and lives in Putney with his wife and daughter. His love of photography began in childhood. His interest grew into a passion that has led him to experiment with many different forms. Their nearly telepathic musical connection began in the truly groundbreaking Irish-American band Solas. Both now have flourishing high-profile solo careers and periodically come together to brush off some Solas standards and lots of their individual material, played together, for these magical musical evenings. An Irish Christmas transports audiences to the quiet, small villages of rural Ireland through the songs, tunes, and stories most familiar to these two world-class artists.Over the past four decades, instrumentalist, composer, producer, and singer/songwriter John Doyle has solidly established himself as one of the most versatile, creative, and prolific voices in folk and traditional Irish music. In 1994, John brought his brilliant and innovative guitar stylings to the nascent Irish super-group Solas, which soon took the folk and Celtic music worlds by storm. With Solas, he performed internationally to sold out audiences, and appeared on many television and radio programs, including NBC’s The Today Show, A Prairie Home Companion, Mountain Stage, E-Town, and World Cafe. As part of that critically acclaimed group, he also received three NAIRD awards and a Grammy nomination. In the years since going out on his own, John has recorded two solo albums and has become a highly sought-after accompanist and session player for the likes of Joan Baez, Eileen Ivers, Tim O’Brien, Linda Thompson, Seamus Egan, Alison Brown, and Kate Rusby.Multi-instrumentalist, composer, and songwriter Mick McAuley's music is rooted firmly in the Irish tradition, but Mick has always been part of a movement that pushes the musical boundaries of that tradition, bringing Irish music to a wider and more diverse audience around the world. He found the ideal balance of traditional and contemporary in the instrumentals and songs of the newly-formed Solas while in the bustling Irish music scene of New York in the mid-1990s, and went on to record and tour nine albums with the band. Mick has been a guest on many recordings and performances by the likes of Mary Chapin Carpenter, Patty Larkin, Paul Brennan (Clannad), Susan McKeown, and Mick Hanly, and since 2015, has played melodeons for 17-time Grammy winner Sting in his autobiographical theater production "The Last Ship." They are the keys to the powerful, even revolutionary, empathy that informs everything she writes. She has won some of the top songwriting awards including the Grand Prize in the John Lennon Songwriting Competition, the Kerrville Folk Festival Best New Folk Award, and the Boston Music Award for Outstanding Folk Act. Circling about bassist/composer Mike Rivard and drummer Dean Johnston, each Club d'Elf performance features a different line-up, drawn from a constellation of some of the most creative improvisers from the jazz, DJ, rock &amp; world music scenes of Boston, NYC and beyond. The band's music draws from a startlingly wide spectrum of styles, including jazz, hip hop, electronica, avant garde, prog-rock and dub. Under the tutelage of member Brahim Fribgane (who hails from Casablanca) the band has absorbed Moroccan trance music, which is now an essential part of the mix. Diverse audiences are drawn to Fribgane’s mesmerizing oud stylings, and Rivard’s commanding playing of the Moroccan sintir. Trance forms the central core of the Club d’Elf aesthetic, weaving together the band’s various influences.In April 2022 the band released its latest album, 'You Never Know', which rose to #2 on the Relix chart. The record unfurls upon kaleidoscopic clouds of spiced smoke, shifting from chopped dub-jazz through trance epics that reimagine Boston as a city of bazaars. Club d’Elf pay tribute to the music and musicians who have been primary influences, with half the album being covers of gnawa, Miles Davis, Joe Zawinul, Moroccan band Nass el-Ghiwane, and Frank Zappa. Artist Statement:Time is a critical element of photography. From exposure to development to printing, each step in the process is defined by time. At each step time is taken to allow the chemical and physical processes to create the final image. I have chosen to have an element of water in each photograph as a way to depict the passing of time to draw attention to change that is often overlooked. I’m trying to narrow the gaze, to focus in on these particulars, on how time changes our view of the environment, because it’s happening incrementally, and we often don’t have the time to notice. But if you pause, as a photograph asks you to do, you can see that the force and power of the water, just like time, offers change.These images are hand made prints using the palladium printing process and are known as palladiotypes. This process dates back to the early days of photography in the 19th century. To create the print, a sheet of cotton rag paper is sensitized by hand coating a mixture of ferric and palladium salts onto its surface. When the coated paper has dried, the paper and a negative is sandwiched in a frame and exposed to ultraviolet light. When the exposure is complete, the print must then be developed to complete the chemical reaction necessary to convert the palladium salts to palladium metal which forms the image. Since this process requires the use of ultraviolet light, enlarging is not possible, and large format negatives must be used. While it is possible to create negatives using digital methods, I only use large format film negatives as a way to stay true to this historical process and to create a deeper connection to my subjects without electronic intervention. About the Artist:Nick Ellison is a mechanical engineer and lives in Putney with his wife and daughter. His love of photography began in childhood. His interest grew into a passion that has led him to experiment with many different forms. Over the last 16 years of creating a buzz at festivals and concert halls across the world, they have truly set the standard for fiddle and cello in traditional music. This seemingly unlikely pairing of instruments is the fulfillment of a long-standing musical dream for Fraser. His search eventually led him to find a cellist who could help return the cello to its historical role at the rhythmic heart of Scottish dance music, where it stood for hundreds of years before being relegated to the orchestra. Alasdair and Natalie blend a profound understanding of the Scottish tradition with cutting-edge string explorations. In addition to performing, they both have motivated generations of string players through their teaching at fiddle camps across the globe.Fraser has a concert and recording career spanning over 30 years, with a long list of awards, accolades, radio and television credits, and feature performances on top movie soundtracks (Last of the Mohicans, Titanic, etc.). His musical acumen provides him with a vehicle for both. He has worked as a cultural diplomat for the US State Department and collaborated with musicians in Ukraine, Mongolia, China, and Mexico. $20 in advance / $25 at the gate / Children under 12 free • Advance ticketing closes two hours before showtime.Created by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and designed and produced by the NYC-based arts organization Found Sound Nation, OneBeat brings musicians (ages 19-35) from around the world to a region of the U.S. for one month each year to collaboratively write, produce, and perform original music, and develop strategies for arts-based social engagement. OneBeat begins with an opening residency, when Fellows collaborate to create original material, record new musical ideas, and incubate their projects. OneBeat Fellows then go on tour across a region of the U.S., performing for a wide array of American audiences, collaborating with local musicians, and leading workshops with youth and community organizations. During the month, each OneBeat musician also sets out their plans for the future, further developing projects in their home countries that embody the OneBeat mission of collaboration and engagement.The Bandwagon Summer Series is a family-friendly outdoor cultural performance series running from early May through mid-October. 20 performances ranging from a diverse group of musical styles, circus arts, dance, and theater will take place at ballfields, farms, and parks throughout Windham County. Kids under 12 always get in for free, and a dedicated play area will be available at all shows. Refreshments are sold onsite, including the return of the hugely popular Barr Hill cocktails. They’ve been playing and writing music together for as long as they can remember and their duo marks their first project together since playing in the internationally touring grass-roots band The Lonely Heartstring Band, with whom they put out two albums on Rounder Records. They toured extensively throughout the US, Canada, and Europe, playing hundreds of clubs, theaters, and festivals. In 2012, Jacob won the National Mandolin Championship in Winfield, Kansas, and two years later, joined the progressive bluegrass jam group Yonder Mountain String Band, releasing three albums and touring with the band until the end of 2019. In 2022, Jacob was called on by world famous banjo player Béla Fleck to tour as part of My Bluegrass Heart. He performed around the country alongside Béla and some of the very best musicians in the genre - Bryan Sutton, Cody Kilby, Justin Moses, Mark Schatz, Michael Cleveland, Stuart Duncan and Billy Contreras. Jacob's main focus now is The Jacob Jolliff Band - an ensemble of virtuosic pickers who play his original instrumentals, and showcase his singing.
