His readings are usually standing room only,and his audience – enhanced tremendously by his appearances on National Public Radio –includes people of all backgrounds and age groups. The poems themselves best explain thisphenomenon. Port Angeles City Ballet takes the stage in its inaugural year with their production of “Don Quixote.”Don Quixote is a ballet based on episodes taken from the world-famous Spanish epic novel “Don Quixote de la Mancha” by Miguel de Cervantes. It was originally choreographed by Marius Petipa to the music of Luswig Minkus, and premiered at Moscow’s Bolshoi Ballet in 1869.Join us on the epic Spanish journey of Don Quixote, a production of over 100 local students and dancers plus guest performers by the Port Angeles City Ballet.

North Olympic Healthcare Network Presents the 2024 OMC Foundation Benefit Concert and Chef’s Dinner at Field Arts &amp; Events Hall. As a Florida native, he studied music at the University of Central Florida while learning improv at the SAK Comedy Lab, the same theater that gave Wayne Brady his start. Chase's penchant for musical improv flavors all of his performances and has led to working with stars from the hit comedy show ‘Whose Line Is It Anyway,’ as well as working as a guest entertainer for Disney Cruise Line. After working for Disney and Universal in various comedic actor roles, he premiered his first solo show ‘6 Guitars’ in 2010 and quickly began performing to sold out houses and rave reviews across North America.

Ethnomusicologist Alan Lomax&nbsp; spent over six decades working to promote knowledge and appreciation of the world’s folk music. He began his career in 1933 alongside his father, the pioneering folklorist John Avery Lomax. In 1934, the two launched an effort to expand the holdings of recorded folk music at the Archive of American Folk Song at the Library of Congress, gathering thousands of field recordings of folk musicians throughout the United States, as well as in Haiti and the Bahamas. His work documents some of the earliest recorded examples of American folk music and inspired the folk renaissance of the 50s-60s.Stemming from the Lomax Project, Jayme Stone’s Folklife treats old field recordings not as time capsules, but as heirloom seeds passed down from a bygone generation. Join political polling expert Stuart Elway to trace the evolution of Washington from a “swing state” to a predominantly Democratic state over two generations. This conversation will also explore the development of tribal politics and its implications, as well as look ahead to the 2024 elections.H. Stuart Elway, Ph.D. has been measuring and analyzing public opinion since 1975, directing hundreds of research projects locally and around the country for large and small businesses, associations, non-profits, foundations, public agencies from federal to local, and media outlets. He directed the Seattle Times Washington Poll from 1984-2000 and started The Elway Poll in 1992, which became the Crosscut Elway Poll in 2018, the only on-going, non-partisan analysis of public opinion in Washington state. In addition to being regularly quoted in Northwest media, Elway has appeared on every television network and been quoted in nearly every major newspaper in the country. Elway, who holds a Ph.D. in Communications, has taught in the public affairs graduate schools at the University of Washington and The Evergreen State College, and has been an Affiliated Research Associate at Heritage University.

With virtuosic skill, each artist offers a unique perspective to capture precious fleeting moments. Through these lenses, you are invited to engage in a visual conversation on how we collectively perceive and experience the world. This collection intends to inspire dialogue, introspection, and appreciation for the shared beauty and narratives that define our interconnectedness. At this opening reception, guests will have the opportunity to meet and mingle with the artists and curators, as well as participate in a panel discussion about the exhibit. IMPRESSIONS: Closing Reception

Local printmaking artist Kaylee Cammack will show participants how to use the gel plate, acrylic paint and other materials to create one of a kind multi layered prints. Demonstrations will be followed by time to play, print and try different techniques. Participants will leave the workshop with a handful of gel printed papers. Recommended for artists 12+ (youth ages 5-11 are welcome with a participating adult). Just a few days before Christmas, the Port Angeles Dream Playground was destroyed in fire overnight. The impact has been devastating for the many local families who play there, and for the many volunteers and supporters who had only recently constructed the award-winning park. Comedy Night in the Sunset Lounge

Cody Hagen's work blends the traditional Japanese printing technique with the endemic and migratory salmonoids and other fish species that he believes capture the culture and spirit of the Olympic Peninsula. His goal is to create work that transports the viewer to the unique environment of his home. He has been studying and talking to Gyotaku masters, asking them questions about their craft, and exploring their art form while progressing his unique style. Cody will showcase his technique with an in-person workshop at Field Hall, presented as part of the current IMPRESSIONS gallery exhibit. He will be demonstrating a hands-on display of live printing, discussing the tools and techniques he has adapted to his art, and sharing his deep love for this place and the fish he uses in his art. Closing Celebration for CREATIONS OF THE KLALLAM PEOPLE | sčáy ʔaʔ cə nəxʷsƛ̕áy̕əm ʔay̕c̕ɬtáyŋxʷ

One of the most famous choirs in the world, the Vienna Boys Choir has been enchanting audiences for centuries with their pure and pristine sound and charming performance style. These gifted musicians with voices of unforgettable beauty are a beloved institution, presenting a diverse array of vocal music that appeals to audiences of all ages. This performance will be the first time in over a decade that the Vienna Boys Choir will perform in the Pacific Northwest. <a href="https://open.spotify.com/artist/5D5J2cMoaGHFaipckBl5xZ" target="_blank">Listen on Spotify</a> | <a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCar2gQSzfKZxNNJzaXf0e6Q/featured" target="_blank">Watch on YouTube</a> In 1498, Emperor Maximilian I moved his court to Vienna to establish the Chapel Imperial there, along with the Vienna Boys Choir. Over the centuries, the court attracted musicians like Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Anton Bruckner. Joseph Haydn, Michael Haydn, and Franz Schubert were themselves choirboys. Today the Vienna Boys Choir is a private, non-profit organization, which relies on sponsorship and donations. The Choir maintains a primary school, a junior and a senior high school. 300 boys and girls between the ages of six and 19 attend the Choir's Schools in Vienna's Augarten park. All receive individual voice lessons and sing in one of the choirs. The Choir's education is open to all, regardless of their origin, nationality, or religion. About third of the students go on to become music professionals.&nbsp; The 100 boy choristers between the ages of nine and fourteen are divided into four choirs. Between them, the choirs give around 300 concerts each year, attended by almost half a million spectators around the world. Since 1924, the boys have sung over 1000 tours in 100 different countries, which has resulted in a staggering 29,000 performances. At the Sunday services in Vienna’s Imperial Chapel, they perform with members of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and the State Opera Chorus. The Choir frequently appears with major orchestras, conducted by the likes of Joana Mallwitz, Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Muti, Christian Thielemann, and Simone Young. Recent highlights include appearances at the Salzburg Festival and at the Vienna Philharmonic's New Year’s Concert. The Vienna Boys Choir's singing tradition is listed by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage in Austria. Both multi-instrumentalists, they switch things up from time to time with Kim on bass and Jason on guitar. No matter the instrumentation, their music is described as “rootsy with an edge”… a tasty soup of new old-time and folk rock spiced with a bit of classic country. From raucous hoe-downs to pin-dropping tunes, their original songs have been deemed “superbly crafted” and have had radio airplay across the country since releasing their first CD back in 2005.

Dr Alvy Ray Smith cofounded two successful startups: Pixar (sold to Disney) and Altamira (sold to Microsoft) and worked as the first director of computer graphics at Lucasfilm. He joins us at Field Arts &amp; Events Hall for the very first Community Conversation, sponsored by First Fed. This conversation is presented with support from Barbara L. Noble &amp; Joe W. Floyd. The Field Hall Art Gallery and Sunset Bar &amp; Lounge will open at 4:30PM. This event is FREE and open to the public. Please RSVP. Dr. Smith was an original member of the Computer Graphics Lab at the New York Institute of Technology and the first Graphics Fellow at Microsoft. He worked at Xerox PARC for the birth of the personal computer, the internet, and some of the earliest color pixels. Dr. Smith has received two technical Academy Awards, for the alpha channel and digital paint systems. He invented the first full-color paint program and the HSV (or HSB) color transform, and co-invented the alpha channel. In 2021, Dr. Smith published a book, A Biography of the Pixel, with MIT Press. Copies of his book will be available for purchase during this event, and Dr. Smith will sign copies after the talk.

Join three generations of weavers from the Elaine Grinnell family (Jamestown S'Klallam) for a demonstration of traditional cedar weaving techniques. Learn how this historically feminine art has evolved and how the act of weaving creates harmony. The demonstration will be held in the Field Hall lower lobby on Saturday, September 16 from 1-4PM. This event is FREE and open to the public, please RSVP. Blind since birth, Schuur built upon the legacy of her idols,including vocalists Dinah Washington, Sarah Vaughan, Nancy Wilson, and George Shearing. She first emerged to widespread fame in the late '70s, championed by artists like her longtime mentor, saxophonist Stan Getz, as well as Frank Sinatra and Stevie Wonder. She released a string of highly lauded, chart-topping albums including 1985's Schuur Thing, 1986's Grammy-winning Timeless, 1991's Pure Schuur, and 1994's Heart to Heart with B.B. King. This event is open only to members of our Founder's Circle. <a href="http://fieldhallevents.org/founders-circle/" target="_blank">Click here to learn more about becoming a member of the Founder's Circle.</a> Known for her romantic and poetic style, Katya Grineva has engaged and entertained audiences throughout the United States, Europe, South America, Asia and Africa. She is the only female solo pianist to have performed in the&nbsp;distinguished&nbsp;Carnegie Hall Isaac Stern&nbsp;auditorium a&nbsp;record 20 times.&nbsp;The New York Times describes her playing as "liquid...dreamlike."&nbsp; Born in Moscow, Ms. Grineva began studying piano at the age of five.&nbsp;She attended the Moscow Music School and&nbsp;studied with prominent Professor Pavel Messnar under the aegis of the prestigious Moscow Conservatory.&nbsp;&nbsp;It was during her tutelage by Messner&nbsp;&nbsp;that she began giving recitals and experiencing the "special and spontaneous" interaction between that artist and the audience that is the hallmark of her music.&nbsp; Through her music, Grineva says, "I want to be remembered for being able to touch people's lives - with a full heart."

This unique program will be performed only once as a special gift from Ms. Grineva to honor the opening of the brand new Donna M. Morris Theater inside Field Hall and help us close our Capital Campaign. The benefit concert will also recognize the extraordinary support from Founders Circle Patrons and Donors, including Dorothy Field, the donor and arts patron for whom the building has been named. The celebration will conclude with a champagne toast inside the new conference center overlooking the Strait of Juan de Fuca.&nbsp;&nbsp; Tickets for this special event are available to Founders Circle donors who have contributed any amount in support of the Capital Campaign and their guests. Welcome to Community Days!&nbsp; We are thrilled to open our doors at Field Arts &amp; Events Hall and invite our vibrant community inside for a free weekend of shows celebrating local artists and performers. Join us for Saturday “Amplified” (12-10PM) and Sunday “Unplugged” (11AM – 7PM) and pop in-and-out of free performances all day long.
