Musical Style: Latin American Jazz

The Mestas-Abbott quartet has been together since 2022, playing shows all over Denver and Boulder. They play the most beautiful and life-affirming songs (in their humble opinion) from the greatest composers of Latin American jazz in South America, Cuba, and Mexico...Alessandro Penezzi, Hugo Fattoruso, César Camargo Mariano, Daniel Maza, Tom Jobim, and more. The quartet features Victor Mestas on piano and keyboards, Mike Abbott on acoustic and electric guitars, special guest Jonathan Powell, Kirwan Brown on electric bass, and Jill Fredricksen on drums and percussion.

Jonathan Powell performs with a wide variety of artists, including Eddie Palmieri and his Latin Jazz Septet and Salsa Orchestra, Blood Sweat and Tears, Sonido Solar, Arturo O' Farrill's Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra, Darcy James Argue's Secret Society, Miguel Zenon, Gregorio Uribe, Pedro Giraudo, Ricky Martin and JT Taylor of Kool and the Gang.
