Freedy Johnston is a singer-songwriter originally from Kinsley, Kansas. A town 1,561 miles from both New York and San Francisco. He moved to New York in the 1980's and worked as an office temp for a few years before landing a deal with Bar None Records in Hoboken. His second record for them was his breakthrough album, 1992's Can You Fly. He then signed to Elektra Records and in 1994 worked with producer Butch Vig on his biggest record, This Perfect World, which featured the radio hit “Bad Reputation”, and earned him Rolling Stone's Songwriter of the Year award for 1994. His songs were featured in the movies “Kingpin”, “Kicking and Screaming” and “Heavy”.
He currently lives in Joshua Tree, California.
Geri X Bulgarian-born Geri X is a composer, a musician and a singer hard to put a label on. Fans and critics spotted it from the moment she broke onto the Tampa Bay music scene: Geri is an artist with a singular sound you have not heard before.
What started with a classical training in piano, guitar and voice, evolving out of a broad and eclectic blend of influences, has become wonderfully her own.
Shawn Kyle A multiple Best of the Bay Award Winner and 14X SXSW Austin official showcasing artist Shawn Kyle is a singer, writer, frontman and multi instrumentalist, who has shifted focus to artist and venue advocacy. Fronting underground groups the Beauvilles, and AMFMS, he was involved with both the Americana revival of the early 2000's and also the Psychedelic Rock and Garage revival of the 2010's as a support act with diverse groups like Ty Segall, AllahLahs the Black Angels, Growlers, Broncho, Drive By Truckers, Centro-Matic, Okkervil River and Jason Isbell. Kyle has also been lead guitarist or collaborator of THOMAS WYNN & THE BELIEVERS, Will Quinlan's the Diviners, John Wesley (of the Porcupine Tree, Vertical Horizon), Geri X, Have Gun, Will Travel, Joey Molland of Badfinger and many others. Kyle is currently working on an EP of new songs co written with Grammy Award winner Jim Lauderdale.
Songwriter Club is a monthly series at historic houses hosted by music industry journeyman, and writer Shawn Kyle encouraging preservation of songwriting as a local art form, community between songwriters and those that love songwriting, and supporting the preservation of historic local culturally relevant spaces and venues, via intimate concerts that allow a connection between listeners and the artist.
