Joined by their soul twin, the unassuming Aaron MacDonald, who would be a watchmaker --for his distinct timing and style, were he not a drummer.You must be in front of the liquid rhythm section and pounding chords of the band to feel the blast. In performance Graves eyes roll furiously and her jawline sets as she contacts the emotion that produced her songs. She contorts herself around a fender slimline telecaster, and, in fits and starts, springs forth with contagious, inspiring performances.

Mary Chicken Soup And Rice will strike grotesque postures with you under hot purple light, at the Mary Chicken Soup And Rice show!MCSR is Matthew Dunehoo. It is an act, but true! Mary itself is a trickster spirit, channeled through the application of a little toxic face paint, the donning of dirty suits, and the practice of purgatorial theatrics: part psychedelic seance, part manic episode, and all unnervingly sincere. Live electrical guitar and squawking against backing drum, bass and alien choir tracks. Ethereal shimmering highs over zombie gutter beats. It’s sheer melodrama as the set swings manically between metallic exuberance and brittle melancholy. Musical analogs include: Eno, Siouxsie, Bowie, Love and Rockets, Oscar The Grouch, Def Leppard, Cocteau Twins, Carole King. The MCSR moniker was inspired by the animated special “Really Rosie,” a collaboration between King and author Marice Sendak, and honors play, and irreverence as integral to survival in the throes of a tirelessly antagonist and beautiful world. The performance itself is intended as a transcendent container, with certain knowledge that gathering in community for music worship remains an essential and revolutionarily mystical act. After working in independent theater companies in NYC, Dunehoo began writing and producing short films. His first feature WRETCH, an indie horror film imagining cancer as a demonic entity, premiered in Helsinki, Finland at Night Visions in April 2019. Dunehoo is an advocate for destigmatizing mental health awareness. His podcast MINDBEND features interviews with guests sharing about their experiences exploring non-ordinary and extraordinary states of consciousness, often with an emphasis on psychedelic modalities. During the pandemic, Dunehoo pulverized his right wrist in a bicycle accident and shortly thereafter cut off the tip of his left ring finger in a separate accident. Originally envisioned as a project wherein he could focus on singing, hands free, for now MCSR live is a one man band featuring painful guitar work, lots of fake candles and flowers, but real portals and spells. MCSR’s debut album is entitled “Que Linda,” and releases on CLEARLY Records, 3.14.25. The album is in memory of his mother Linda, an English teacher and watercolorist, who painted its cover as her last commission before succumbing to ovarian cancer in August, 2024. Beginning as frontman of indie bands Asahi and Grand Hallway, and a successful solo career spanning two decades as a singer, songwriter, composer, producer, actor, and curator, Nakayama is one of the most active and recognizable figures in Seattle music. His music has been placed in the Netflix hit “House of Ninjas”, HBO Max’s “Sex Lives of College Girls”, and the Sundance Grand Jury nominated indie dramedy “Touchy Feely”.After the critically acclaimed indie-folk albums “Fog on the Lens” and “Pieces of Sky” (named "Best Folk Act" by Seattle Weekly), Nakayama surprised his fans by releasing “Melonday" (Porchlight Records), a collection of instantly memorable and undeniably danceable synthpop songs. Co-produced by Yuuki Matthews (The Shins, Sufjan Stevens) and mastered by Dave Cooley (M83, Paramore, Tame Impala), “Melonday” was named one of the Top Albums of the year by Seattle Times, KEXP, and Seattle Met Magazine, and debuted at #1 on KEXP’s NW Charts. The following year he composed the music for Megan Griffith’s feature film “I’ll Show You Mine” and the KUOW podcast “Ten Thousand Things” hosted by Shin Yu Pai, and collaborated on a song with Dave Matthews to benefit SMASH (Seattle Musicians Access to Sustainable Healthcare).Nakayama has toured across the US and Japan, sharing the stage with Cornelius, Built to Spill, Thao, Daði Freyr, Fleet Foxes, Buffalo Daughter, Sons of Kemet, Twilight Sad, and Shugo Tokumaru. He has performed and collaborated with Sera Cahoone, Jherek Bischoff, Jeremy Enigk (of Sunny Day Real Estate), Donnie Emerson, and experimental dance company Malacarne. Portland’s Risley (Riz – Lee) is a four piece band that can be described as dreamy and nostalgic Indie Rock with a twist of 80s British influence. A web of interlaced dreamy guitar melodies often sit atop a driving rhythm section to stage the back drop for soaring vocals and thoughtful lyrics.Their new album, ‘Umbra Penumbra’, is slated for release on January 24th, 2025 and will be celebrated with an album release show at Mississippi Studios, with guests, Mini Blinds and The Fourth Wall on January, 23rd. The record also notably features a guest appearance on the song ‘Walls’ by Dave Abbruzzese (Pearl Jam) on drums.Named after a cat, Risley was formed in 2016 by Michael Deresh. Risley’s self-titled debut, ranged widely in style and personnel. It featured 12 friends from bands like Genders, Sunbathe and Typhoon joining him throughout the album’s 22 tracks.Deresh has been a fixture of the Portland music community for ages. He was one of the founding members of PDXPOPNOW! From 2002-2010, his band Tea for Julie opened for acts like The Lemonheads, Menomena, Snow Patrol, Evan Dando, Matt Pond PA, The Ocean Blue and The Thermals. Their two albums were in heavy rotation on Seattle’s KEXP and Portland’s KNRK.Over the last few years, Risley’s lineup and sound settled in and gained focus as they really gelled as a band. Jaime Hazerian relocated from LA where she’d been playing guitar in the post rock band ‘Arms for Tripoli’ and touring with Pinback. She and Michael were a natural fit, musically finishing each other’s sentences and collaborating prolifically. Andrew Meininger (Wampire, Bed) brought a real dynamic, nuanced and energetic pulse on drums to the often dreamy vibe. Tyler Rachal took over bass, delivering stalwart and sticky hooks that provide foundation to the many interwoven guitars.Their sophomore release, ‘Meantime Fades’ was released in 2021 with a live streamed performance at the historic Crystal Ballroom.

A visual artist and painter as well as an unconventional, self-taught songwriter and musician, everything that fuels the creative output of Manchester’s Xenya Genovese, AKA Freak Slug, is about raw, authentic, sometimes weird but always totally true self-expression. She’s not one to sugar coat things; “I’m a lot, so it’s a lot to show who I am because some people might not like it,” she accepts. But in amongst the mix of an introverted extrovert, self described “avoidant” Leo rising, lives the sort of musician who can do nostalgic, ‘90s influenced and dreamy as well as eccentric and experimental. Down there, picking through the curious mix of sounds and feelings, lives Freak Slug.Having moved from Manchester to London to study Fine Art at university, Genovese thought her path was already set. “I’ve been doing art since I was young. It’s been quite a surprise for me, doing this whole music thing…” she says. In some ways, the pivot to musician did sneak up on her. Where art was her career (or so she thought), from the age of 15 writing songs had just been a hobby; an outlet where she could see where her mind went with no external expectations. “From about 18, I was making music alone - experimental, fuzzy, lo-fi stuff; embracing mistakes and recording through my Mac mic. I was inspired by unique sounds and music with loads of imperfections,” she remembers. “It wasn’t what I thought I’d be doing so I was just going with the flow. Having fun was my inspiration, and seeing what I liked.”

Babe Corner is a rock band hailing from Vancouver, BC, Canada. Known for their captivating guitar riffs, dreamy synths, and soothing melodic lead vocals, the band brings a nostalgic rock vibe to life, elevated by lush four-part harmonies. In 2023, Babe Corner released their debut LP, Crybaby, introducing their signature sound—a mix of heartfelt emotion and infectious energy. The band has two singles set to drop in January 2025 with an LP later in the year. The band continues to carve out their own genre, aptly dubbed “Babe Core.” But don’t try to define them too neatly—after all, nobody puts Baby in a corner.

Expect to encounter familiar characters and plots, but with a twist that leads you down paths less traveled—into forests darker, castles more haunted, and endings far from the expected. Mega Cat&nbsp;In the summer of 2020, Aaron Benson (drums, percussion, guitar) and his wife Emily began hosting weekly bonfires at their home. Keyboardist Kim West and her husband Ryan Devlin (bass and guitar) were in regular attendance, along with a handful of neighbors and friends. It was the era of lockdown and social distancing, and the Benson bonfires became a sanctuary of connection. The tradition lasted until autumn’s arrival and the notorious Seattle rain that came with it.With the skies darkening, Aaron asked Kim and Ryan if they’d care to come into his home studio, Mad Val, and hear some of the great drum sounds he was getting. This first spark inspired the three musicians to join forces and jam: Kim on her electric piano and synthesizer, Ryan on bass, and Aaron on kit and running tape op. With no direction other than the joy of making music, they played for hours on end. The compositions came naturally, and with the liberty of no expectations, the trio found themselves combining sounds, genres, and textures in surprising ways. The first session was labeled “KRA 1,” for Kim, Ryan, and Aaron.Night HeronThe record is called “Instructions for Night.” And by the end of the first track on Night Heron’s debut, the listener knows who these instructions are for. They’re for those of us awake against our will: tossing in bed after a terrible fight, pacing the hallways of new parenthood, stricken with fear of unemployment or a bad test result. These instructions are for a person (or in the case of 2020, perhaps an entire population), so dislocated by circumstance they no longer make a meaningful distinction between night and day. There is only more or less light.But what, exactly, are the instructions? They are whispery, and multiple, and mainly tell us what not to do. “Stop crying / Go back to sleep” they tell us. (Sleeping Boy). They remind us that “martyrdom's been done before” (Dreamz). And lest we be tempted to seek solace in a device: we gaze into “1000 mirrors” but there is only “one reflection.” And then, with soft insistence: “No one is looking at you / No one is looking at you. / No one is looking at you.”&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; ALL SALES ARE FINAL.
